Silphium  perfoliatum . Yellow daisy-like flowers on long stout stalks. Opposite leaves form a cup at the stem that collects rain water and dew. Birds insects and can be found drinking. This native attracts pollinators while in bloom and songbirds that feed on its seeds. Naturalizing, prairie gardens, backdrop to other perennials. Often grows 3-8 feet tall. Full sun is best. Zones 3-9.
