Spigelia marilandica. Very compact, mounding, evergreen perennial that produces spikes of fragrant, purple flowers on tall stems that stand above the foliage. Shear lightly after flowering to maintain dense foliage. Perfect in herb gardens, mixed borders and containers. Grows 12" tall by 14" wide. Blooms late spring to late summer. Full sun. Plant in well-drained soil. Zones 6-9.
